It doesn't matter what sport you're playing, everyone is welcome to register for our events.

ABOUT THE SPORT

This is a fast-paced and competitive sport, but the ESSC emphasizes a ‘fun-first’ attitude to the game! This season, sharpen your skills, broaden your knowledge and have a great time with your team at one of our 4 private facilities each week. It’s a 5 on 5 game including the goalies, with a minimum of 2 females on the floor at all times, or a 4 on 4 game with a minimum of 1 female on the floor at all times. The ESSC offers Recreational, Recreational Plus, Intermediate and Competitive divisions. All games have a Coordinator present but you are expected to call your own fouls and be responsible for your own play. After your game, meet-up with your team mates and other ESSC players while enjoying exclusive specials at one of our many Sponsor Bars around Edmonton. Floor Hockey is one of the ESSC’s most popular sports and leagues sell out quickly.

  WHO CAN PLAY?

Adults aged 18 and older can join the Floor Hockey leagues. All Floor Hockey Leagues in the ESSC are co-ed. The levels offered include Recreational, Recreational Plus, Intermediate, and Competitive. These divisions accomodate all skill levels; from the beginner to the experienced Floor Hockey Player. For a description of each division's level of skill, please see below. We welcome full teams, small groups (5 or more players but not a full team), friends (2-4 players) and individual registrations. Small groups, friends and individual registrations are combined with other similiar registrants to form a team that remains together for the duration of the season. Click here for more info.

Games Coordinators

ESSC Games Coordinators are responsible for monitoring all Floor Hockey games. The Games Coordinators are also responsible for keeping and reporting the scores, setting up the nets, and awarding sportsmanship points for each team. The Games Coordinator is not a referee, but is present to ensure the fun and safety of all players. In Floor Hockey leagues, if the players are not calling their own fouls, the Games Coordinator will call penalties as per the rules.

Calling the Shots Players are expected to call their own fouls/infractions. Please see the rules section for more details on the ESSC policies on self-officiating.

FALL 2008 LEAGUES AND SKILL LEVELS

LEVEL DESCRIPTION
SUNDAY
Recreational This division will see teams that may have some skilled players, but typically the team as a whole does not have a lot of experience playing any form of hockey. Passing, shooting and goaltending is unpredictable as some teams learn the sport better than others. There is a big emphasis on fun first.
SUNDAY
Recreational Plus This division will see teams where the majority of players have played some form of hockey in the past. Passing and shooting are typically accurate, with goaltenders being skilled. The games in this division are usually fast-paced with a lot of action.
SUNDAY
Intermediate Teams in this division are too good to play in the Rec levels, but need more experience to get to the Int+/Competitive levels. This division will see teams who can form organzied plays and are very skilled in all aspects of the game (offense, defense, goaltending).
