ABOUT
THE SPORT
Be a part of one of the ESSC’s most popular sports. Practice your digging, blocking, setting and hitting in the division that suits your skill level. The ESSC offers Recreational, Intermediate, Intermediate Plus and Competitive divisions. All leagues are 6 on 6 with a minimum of two females on the court at all times. There is an Event Coordinator on-site to update players on ESSC happenings and to get the games started, however, players are expected to call their fouls and manage their own game. Each team plays two opponents in best of three matches each night. In new format volleyball teams play one opponent per night in a best of five format. Games are played at medium (Rec and Int divisions) and large sized (Int Plus and Comp divisions) public and private gyms throughout the city. After your game, meet-up with your team mates and other ESSC players while enjoying exclusive specials at one of our many Sponsor Bars around Edmonton.

WHO
CAN PLAY?
Adults aged 18 and older can join the indoor Volleyball leagues. All Volleyball divisions in the ESSC are co-ed and self-officiated. Our leagues offer a variety of levels ranging from beginners all the way up to skilled veterans. Our divisions include Recreational, Intermediate, Intermediate Plus, and a Competitive division for very skilled and experienced players. For a detailed description of the skill level involved in each league please see below. We welcome full teams, small groups (5 or more players but not a full team), friends (2-4 players) and individual registrations. | Facility Information |
We rent school gyms and private facilities that are located throughout the city of Edmonton.
|
| Equipment |
The ESSC provides high caliber Wilson volleyballs and ensures that all gyms have solid nets and standards. Players set-up and take down the nets at the gyms. All players must wear clean, non-marking indoor shoes.
|
| Schedules and General Game Format |
Arrival times to the schools range from 6:15pm-9:15pm on weeknights. Weeknight leagues can expect mostly later start times due to early rental times reserved for youth groups.
For the Sunday league, start times can range between 11:00am - 5:00pm.
PLEASE NOTE: Games may be scheduled for long weekend Mondays.
Teams will play two timed matches per night. Match length will depend on the permit time for each gym, the EC (see below) will determine how long each match will be based on when play will actually start to 5 minutes before the permit time ends (which is when we must stop playing to pack up and be out the gym by the end of the permit time).
In new format volleyball teams play one opponent per night in a best of five format.

Event Coordinators
|
There is an Event Coordinator (EC) at every facility. ECs are players in the league who help out on game night. Please see JOBS for more details on how to save your fees and become an EC.
|
| Calling the Shots |
Players are expected to call their own fouls/infractions. Please see the rules section for more details on the ESSC policies on self-officiating.
