General Description

ESSC Outdoor Soccer is a great way to stay active and get in shape. This season, work on your eye-foot coordination and have fun with your friends in one of our Outdoor Soccer leagues. After your game, enjoy ESSC specials at one of our many Sponsor Bars around Edmonton!

Player Testimonial: "Michelle and I are about to enter our fifth year of playing Outdoor Soccer in the SSC. We both originally signed up as individuals and first met when our respective Singles Teams faced off. Not only have we since made great friends with many of our teammates, but in fact, Michelle and I got married a couple of years after that first meeting on the soccer field." – Mark, Wednesday Outdoor Soccer

Who Can Play?

The ESSC is an adult league only. All players must be 18 years of age or older before they participate in any ESSC league or event. We accept all levels of skill and experience by offering a wide range of divisions. We welcome full team, small group, individual and substitute registrations.

 DIVISION DESCRIPTIONS

Division

                                                       Description

GC’d Leagues (not offered Fall 2010)

Although still self-officiated, our GC’d Outdoor Soccer leagues will provide the same great playing experience as regular outdoor leagues but with a Games Coordinator present. GC’s will help set up the field, bring the equipment, monitor the games and report scores. GC’d leagues will still be played with the ‘Fun First, Winning Second’ mentality, but a Club representative will be present to ensure rules and policies are being upheld. If you love to play soccer, but would appreciate a paid ESSC representative being at your games, then this is the league for you!

Recreational

This division is for teams or players that are new to the sport and have little experience playing soccer.

Recreational Plus

This division is for teams or players that have some soccer experience and display better ball control and teamwork than those in the recreational division.

Intermediate

This division is for soccer enthusiasts who are looking for more competition, have good ball control and can put together well-organized plays.

The above divisions are created based on skill level and not on competitive behaviour. All SSC players are expected to play with a ‘fun-first, winning second’ attitude. The SSC may move your team up or down a division based on seasonal results.

IMPORTANT OUTDOOR SOCCER INFORMATION

Facility Information

ESSC Soccer is played on smaller fields to accommodate smaller rosters; fields are located throughout the City of Edmonton. Each field has goal posts. Any team or player who causes the ESSC to receive a complaint from a facility will be fined $100 and may be removed from the league. For full details, click here.

Equipment

All players are required to bring a light and dark colored shirt to every game. Please see the Rules section for legal equipment before purchasing your own gear. A $30 deposit is required for equipment provided by the ESSC for non-GC’d leagues. Deposits are refunded, for returned equipment, at the end of the season. Equipment is provided by the GC for GC’d leagues.

Provided by the ESSC

Format/Rosters

All leagues are co-ed. Team rosters typically range in size from 9-12 players. Games consist of 2, 40-minute halves.

Outdoor

Calling the Shots

All players are expected to be on time, call their own fouls and abide by ESSC rules and polices. Select Outdoor Soccer leagues will also have an ESSC Games Coordinator (GC) present. GC’s are responsible for monitoring the game, tracking time, keeping score and reporting the scores to the ESSC office. They are not trained referees and will only calls fouls if the teams are not doing so themselves.

Additional Information

Players Meetings: The ESSC may or may not, depending on the season, host mandatory Players Meetingsand/or require all new Team Captains and individuals to complete an online Player Questionnaire. This will be specified on the registration form.

Waiver: All players are expected to complete a waiver prior to playing in any ESSC league or event. One waiver per player, per season is sufficient. To complete the waiver, click here.

Reporting Scores: One player from each team, typically the captain, in the non-GC’d leagues, is responsible for reporting the game scores to the ESSC no later than 5:00pm the day after each game. Instructions on where and how to report scores can be found on the Player Info page. In GC'd leagues, the GC will report scores to the ESSC.

Permits: Team Captains in non-GC’d leagues are responsible for ensuring the appropriate field permit is brought to each game. Permits can be downloaded off the website on the schedule index page. In GC’d leagues, the permit is brought by the GC.

Weather Policy: The ESSC provides daily updates regarding weather. To view the entire weather policy, click here.

Cancellation Policy: In order to receive a full refund, cancellations must be submitted 2 business days prior to the registration deadline applicable to that season. After this time, no player or team will be eligible for a full or partial refund or credit.
Default Policy for Team Registrations:
You agree to supply a $50 default fee each time your team does not meet minimum player requirements at game time. If the default fee is not paid before the following week's game, you will be given an automatic loss for that game and for all games thereafter until the fee is paid. If your team defaults a second time, your status in the league will be under review. The ESSC does not profit from default fees; any team defaulted against is automatically refunded the applicable default fee onto the credit card which was used to register the team.
